The third course enables you to provide personal advice on personal and business superannuation, retirement income stream products, pensions, roll-overs and annuities.

Module Content

1. Understanding superannuation

General purposes:

  • Sole Purpose Test;
  • Trust Structure of Superannuation, and
  • Protection of assets in the case of bankruptcy.

2. Superannuation and Financial Planning Advice

The Advisor’s Role:

  • Identify client’s objectives, needs and financial situation (The Fact Finding stage);
  • Analyse client needs, situation and risk profile (Identifying related considerations);

3. Develop appropriate strategies and solutions

  • Specialist knowledge required for providing superannuation advice;
  • Taxation and the superannuation environment;
  • Main types of superannuation funds;
  • Styles of superannuation plans;
  • Features of Superannuation;
  • Life/TPD insurance owned by the Trustee of the superannuation fund;
  • Consolidation of superannuation funds;
  • Investment Decisions within a Superannuation Fund;
  • Contributions to superannuation;
  • Preservation Rules (Accessibility to Superannuation);
  • Option One: Cashing out;
  • Option Two: Retirement Income Streams;
  • Option Three: Combination of Lump Sum and Retirement Income Streams;
  • Reasonable Benefit Limits (RBLs)

4. Present appropriate strategies and solutions to the client

  • Establish relationship with client
  • Identify client’s objectives, needs and financial situation
  • Develop appropriate strategies and solutions

Superannuation Course assessment

Upon enrolment, you will receive a course manual which includes three types of Content that form the requirements to successfully complete this Course:

  1. General Content;
  2. Reference Material; and
  3. Assessment Material.

Prior to attending the face-to-face workshop you will need to complete the required reading which includes the reading, re-reading and analysis of the General Content, Reference Material and Assessment Material.

The face-to-face workshop is a skill-based program moderated by a facilitator qualified to deliver and assess Student’s knowledge and skills and assist Students in developing responses to activities in a group setting. Activity questions include case studies, role-plays, short answer and multiple choice questions to provide skill-based learning outcomes.
